Serve with UC


A great way to get involved in the church is to join one of the many serving teams that we have here at UCCC. We have a lot of different opportunities that available to join. Some require higher commitment and some require very low commitment. There are opportunities for everyone. Here are some of our most pressing needs right now, with information on who to contact to sign up.


Most Pressing Needs

We all want to make a difference rather that doing tasks that aren’t meaningful. Here are the clearest ways you can make a difference by serving our church or community with the most pressing needs.

  • Care Team Member:

    What? Care team members lovingly and thoughtfully respond to various needs that arise within the church. Responses can range and vary from prayer to dropping off a meal, or sending a card or visiting someone in the hospital. 


    How often? Care team members usually receive an email once per week and then respond accordingly to the needs that come up.

  • Cafe Host

    What? Sets up the Cafe and monitors that we do not run out of anything during the Sunday Service, then closes and cleans the equipment. 


    How often? Cafe Hosts serve from 8:45-11:30 am (with time to attend service) on 1, occasionally 2, Sundays each month on a rotating schedule.

  • Servers

    What? Various duties include packing bags, helping bring groceries outside to the cars, restocking tables and shelves, depending on physical abilities.


    When? Volunteers serve once or twice a month on Tuesdays from 3:30-6 pm.

    Morning set-up helper

    What? Help needed to set-up tables, unload food being delivered for the evening distribution, and restocking shelves.  


    When? Volunteers serve once or twice a month from 9:30-11am on Tuesday morning.

  • Driver

    What? Responsible for caring for the college students by driving them from the BU campus to UCCC and back on Sunday mornings. Must have a valid NY State Driver’s license.    


    When? Pickup time is 9:25 am at Binghamton University’s Mohawk parking area.  Drop-off time is after the morning service. Student rides to and from church are provided weekly. Drivers can be scheduled every Sunday from September-May or may volunteer on a substitute basis.

  • Communion Servers 

    What? Communion servers play an important role in helping the congregation engage with God by serving them communion during the worship service. 


    When? Servers actively serve only for a few minutes during the Sunday morning service on a  rotation base (at minimum monthly).

    Communion Coordinator 


    What? A communion coordination guides the church to engage with God every week to partake in communion. This role is responsible to recruit and schedule volunteers to set up communion and to serve communion each week.


    When? The time recruit and schedule volunteers can be flexible to the coordinator’s schedule.

  • Greeters

    What? A greeter welcomes guests to church and helps them feel comfortable and valued from the moment they enter the building. 


    When? Greeters serve from 9:30 to 10:10 on a monthly rotation.

  • **Gardener:

    What? Tend to UC Garden by weeding, watering, and pruning throughout the year and then harvesting when the time is right. The harvest of this garden goes directly to our CHOW pantry to serve those who are experiencing food insecurity. 


    When? As per your availability.

  • **Special Projects Team:

    What? Create a beautiful space by tending to the landscaping around the church property. This can range from weeding to cutting down trees in the summer or clearing snow in the winter.

  • Kindergarten-2nd Grade Teacher

    What? Create a safe and loving environment where kids can engage with God by using pre-prepared materials to engage in intentional activities, discussions and games around the month’s theme, teaching kids God’s heart and helping them discover how to live out truth in daily life.


    When? 1 Sunday per month during service, arrive by 9:40am

    Classroom Helper

    What? Assist the teacher in helping kids engage with God by setting up activities and guiding younger classroom helpers.


    When? 1 Sunday per month during service, arrive by 9:40am

    Check-In Desk

    What? Help families feel welcome and facilitate a safe drop-off process by greeting families, learning their names, utilizing computer system to check-in kids and print name tags, answering questions and giving guidance as needed.


    When? 1 Sunday per month (or “on call” when needed), from 9:40-10:20am

    Event Child Care Helper

    What? Provide a safe and loving environment for kids during special events by holding/comforting crying babies, playing with young kids, using pre-prepared materials to engage kids in intentional activities to help them experience the heart and presence of God.


    When? 8 week commitment during Creating Space sessions; or occasional one-time commitment for 1-2 hour events, including Christmas Eve, Good Friday, and other all-church events

  • Prayer Team Member

    What? Prayer team members create an environment where people can engage with God though receiving prayer. Prayer team members pray for people as they come up after the service.


    When? Prayer team members are available after the Sunday service to pray for people about 15 minutes on a monthly rotation. Prayer team members are also invited to join a prayer group on Sundays from 9-9:45a if they are able.

  • Safety Team Member: 

    What? A Safety team member actively provides a safe and welcoming environment necessary for worship and connection for the family at Union Center Christian Church. The four main areas overseen by the Safety Team are the Parking Lot, the Entryways, The Children's wing, and The Sanctuary.


    When? A safety member serves once a month during the Sunday Service, and will be part of a team that is helpful, welcoming, and available to respond to potential emergencies.

  • Lights/Camera/Switcher Volunteer

    What? A lights/camera/switcher volunteer helps to set the environment for people to engage with God. It involves operating the light board, the live video switcher, and the camera. (No experience needed. We will train you!) 


    When? This volunteer usually serves twice a month on Sundays from 9:45-11:30am.
